Founders are often surprised by how much personal information appears on the public Companies House register.
In certain circumstances, you can apply to have some of this information removed.
This guide applies to:
- Limited companies
- Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)
What You Can Apply to Remove
Home Address
You can apply to remove your home address if it was used as:
- Your service (correspondence) address, or
- The company’s registered office address
Important:
- If you're still an active officer (e.g. director or PSC), you must provide a replacement address.
- If the address was used as the registered office and the company is still active, you must change the registered office first.
- If the company has been dissolved, you must wait 6 months before applying.
Occupation
You can apply to remove your occupation only where it was mandatory to provide it (for example, when appointed as a director).
Signature
You can apply to remove a handwritten signature from certain documents.
This does not include:
- Printed names
- Mortgage documents, deeds, debentures or charges
Day of Birth
You can apply to remove the day of your date of birth if it was filed before 10 October 2015.
Note: The public register now only shows the month and year of birth.

Applying as a Company (Higher Risk Cases)
If you’re applying as a company (using forms SR02 or SR03), this is only allowed where there is a serious risk of violence or intimidation.
You must:
- Request the form by emailing: dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk
- Provide a supporting statement
- Include evidence or a court order (if applicable)
Processing takes at least 30 days and complex cases can take much longer.
What Happens Next?
If your application is approved:
- The relevant personal details will be removed.
- If you’re still a director, PSC, LLP member or secretary, you’ll need to provide an alternative address.
- If you're no longer an officer or the company is dissolved, Companies House will partially hide the address (e.g. only part of the postcode will show).
- If your application is refused (SR02/SR03 only), you have the right to appeal within 28 days.
Key Things Founders Should Know
